New conductor

The Spring term 2012 brings us a new conductor - Mike Calder. Mike is a retired musician with a distinguished musical career incudling the position of  Principal Double Bass in the Halle Orchestra. He is also a very experienced teacher having been Head of lower strings for Manchester Education Service and Head of Strings for East Renfrew among other positions.

December 2011 wrap-up

Following Bede's departure some weeks prior to the end-of-term concert, the tutors stepped into the breach, sharing the conducting between them. At the end-of-term concert though, it was Jacqui alone who took on the mantle and did it with admirable competence and poise. The concert went very well and we owe her a debt of thanks. Our sound was bolstered by the import of a number of extra players filling in some of the section gaps and beefing up some existing sections of the orchestra. To them, also thanks.

The audience seemed to enjoy the music, and we all enjoyed the tea and fine selection of cakes and biscuits which followed.
